Qatar airways gave us the luxury of a hotel stay for free at Doha after we had a 20 hour layover there. It was a certain blessing after an 8hr flight and another 8hrs that awaited us on the next leg of our journey.
We didn’t expect the 43 degrees celsius heat that made you feel like you are a pie busy being baked in some strange land of giants.
I drowned in my sweat for most of the day while we were outside, but who says no to a good natural detox session?
Check out below what we saw on our runnings around in the desert.
The “stroll” to find the mall…. A five minute walk in hell. There’s a reason why no one works between 12 and 4pm (Above).
The Museum of Islamic Arts is a big and airconned building, a perfect way to kill a couple of heat hours.
Our final stop before sunset was the Grand Mosque. It’s an impressive spiral building visited by 100’s of people daily. The people there are very helpful, always willing to tell you about Islam. Unfortunately for a tourist the conversation does go on for quite a while. For someone with different beliefs I would definitely recommend a chat. I find it very eye-opening to hear about other people’s beliefs.
We missed the sunset (which I really wanted to be outside for to take some pictures) but found our way to the Souq Waqif night market. That was a real treat for me.
To be continued on my next post.
